One thing riding new Hooligan around has shown me, is that the tires on my Zuma were absolutely crap. I never liked them, but I had gotten used to them. Well, I couldn’t take it anymore, so this weekend I ordered a set of Continental scooter tires. One showed up yesterday, and the other arrived today. In the nick of time too, because look what showed up on my Zuma’s original front tire today.

Hello wear bar ! Apparently I favor left-hand turns.

Can’t wait to get these installed.

This time I will be paying the shop to mount and balance them. Doing the front on the Kymco with tire spoons was a total bitch, and that thing was too slow to bother worrying about balancing it.

I’ve heard those don’t work and actually can cause some problems if you hit a larger bump or pothole. Part of the problem is that they only work for vertical balancing - if the best balance is found by weighing one side of the wheel over the other, you’re not getting that with the beads. Oh, and they can clog up many valve stems. If you’re getting a shop to mount and balance them, best to stick with traditi onal weights.

It might be okay, and if you were mounting something like some moped tires or some cheap tires on a basic, older bike (on some old wheels that might have some other problems....) I have heard it does help a lot with preventing uneven wear. But over the past two years all I’ve heard is “It isn’t better than professional mounting and balancing so if you’re paying the man anyways, get traditional weights. If you’re doing it on your own, it can help get it done quickly and easily, especially for street bikes or mopeds with older wheels”

I immediately thought of your bike tire, as soon as I saw a wear bar on the left side only.

I have not. Actually, I don't even know what you're talking about. I should look that up.

Gotcha. I put a lot of miles on this scooter, so I'm not messing around with that on this one. I may try it on a future project scooter just to see.
